Maurer Gardens brings over 15 years in the landscape design industry with the mission to create beautiful, equitable and sustainable outdoor spaces for the private and public sector.
Susie Maurer was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. After receiving a degree in architecture and working at firms both in Cleveland and New York City, Susie pursued a lifelong dream of studying sculpture. It was at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY where she received an MFA, focusing on welding, forging and stone. She enhanced her knowledge of architecture, landscape and materials by creating experiential spaces with welded, forged and natural earth materials.
Shortly thereafter, Susie started her landscape design career at award winning architecture and landscape architecture firm dlandstudio in Brooklyn, NY. Under the leadership of founder and principal, Susannah Drake, PLA, RA, Susie discovered a deep interest in designing outdoor spaces. With emphasis on an interdisciplinary team approach, dlandstudio, nurtured a balance between nature, materiality, architecture, horticulture, science and sustainability with the user as the core benefactor. The end results being beautiful and ecologically sustainable spaces for residential, institutional, urban and waterfront environments.
Maurer Gardens’ combined professional design projects span various user groups, climatic conditions, eco-regions, planting palettes, and hardiness zones. In addition to New York and Ohio, Susie has completed projects in the continent of Africa (Ghana, Malawi, Rwanda).
